Narcissistic Personality Disorder: Stonewalling

Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is a serious mental disorder characterized by an excessive need for admiration, an inability to take criticism, and a lack of empathy for others.
Stonewalling – a typical narcissistic behavior – occurs when the narcissistic person completely shuts down in order to avoid criticism or emotions.
Stonewalling is often a defensive mechanism used by individuals with NPD to protect themselves from criticism or to maintain power in a conflict.
Stonewalling can cause a person in an interaction to feel disrespected, unheard or unvalued, as the person with NPD refuses to engage in a meaningful conversation.
Stonewalling is an emotionally abusive behavior and can cause serious damage to interpersonal relationships.
